DISASTER RELIEF FOR HAITI

"Blessed is the one who considers the poor..." - Psalm 41:1

Updated Friday, February 22, 2019

No Orphan Left Behind Foundation call for assistance for the people of Haiti.

Days of violent protest have created a humanitarian crisis in Haiti. The current unstable situation represents the collapse of an already fragile infrastructure that could set Haiti back a decade or more in its efforts to overcome extreme poverty and deprivation. Prior to the 2010 earthquake, Haiti was the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Post-earthquake the country has continued to struggle to overcome multiple challenges. Currently, prices on necessities like food and water have increased beyond the ability of people to pay for them. Access to these supplies is rapidly disappearing.

Reports from our staff and other organizations on the

ground include descriptions such as:

“Many Haitians have been without food for days. Even if they could find it, because of price increases they couldn’t afford it. It’s really about bare necessities right now.”

“We are still very worried, we don’t know what will happen in the coming days.  Right now, we can’t sleep for worry.  We pray to the Lord and keep our fingers crossed.”

“The orphanage doesn’t have the ingredients to cook with.  They need water now – the kids say they are always thirsty. The generator is not working because there is no gas.”

“I tried to get to work today by walking since there is no transportation.  It took me about 2 hours to walk halfway there through tire burnings.  You have to be brave to walk in the roads of Port-au-Prince right now.  I had to turn around and go home.  I feel like I am going to have a heart attack.”

Our Response:

Our team of missionaries currently located in the Dominican Republic will be traveling to Haiti on February 25, 2019 to deliver food and water to the children and staff of our Bethel Educational Center in Cerca-la-Source, Haiti. We will also be delivering food and water to Haitians in the communities of Cerca-la-Source and Saltadere, Haiti. We are planning to continue to travel to Haiti every two weeks after February 25th to deliver food and water to our children, staff and the people of Haiti. Our next trip is currently schedule for March 11th, 2019.
